Corrections and clarifications
The first paragraph in a report “Ball in government’s court: Left” (August 30, 2007, page 1) was: “After agreeing to the setting up of a mechanism to address their objections to the nuclear deal with the United States, the Left parties on Wednesday asserted that the proposed mechanism should be accompanied by a government statement that it will not the deal. It should have been “… that it will not operationalise the deal”. It was an
editing error.
A sentence in the second paragraph of “Moving towards a consensus” (Editorial, August 30, 2007) was: “It is highly unlikely that the proposals the Raghuram Rajan makes would be any easier to implement than some of the key recommendations of earlier committees.” It should have been: “It is highly unlikely that the proposals the Raghuram Rajan panel makes would be any easier to implement than some of the key recommendations of earlier committees.
”
The sixth paragraph in a report “Judge declines to hear Salman’s bail plea” (August 30, 2007) was: “Legal circles in Jodhpur, the main bench of the Rajasthan High Court, noted that if Salman fails to
get bail on Thursday ….” It should have been: “Legal circles in Jodhpur, the principal seat of the Rajasthan High Court, noted that if Salman fails to get bail on Thursday ….” All High Courts have a principal seat in one city and Benches, if any, in other towns. For example, the Allahabad High Court’s principal seat is in Allahabad and Bench in Lucknow, the Bombay High Court’s principal seat is in Mumbai and Bench in Nagpur, the Rajasthan High Court’s principal seat is in Jodhpur and Bench in Jaipur, and the Madras High Court’s principal seat is in Chennai and Bench in Madurai.
A report “Government statement likely on Sachar Committee, says Dasmunshi” (August 30, 2007) was incomplete. Sentences in the last paragraph were missing. The paragraph should have been: “With the adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday having taken up most of the day, the Minister expected the postponed debates on price rise and farmers’ issues to spill into next week, when Tuesday is a no-session day on account of Janmashtami. Already there is/
was some talk among MPs that Monday should also be declared as a no-session day to enable MPs to visit their constituencies over a long week-end. The nuclear debate and a discussion on the Sachar committee report, if any, would be pushed to the later part of the first week of September.” (The words in italics were omitted.)
A pointer in an infobox accompanying a report “Scapegoat plea will not hold in bribe case: Supreme Court” (August 30, 2007) was: “Woman pursues appeal against deceased husband”. It should have been
8220;Woman pursues appeal of deceased husband”, as stated in the text.
