PATNA: The special court in Siwan on Thursday convicted RJD MP Md. Shahbuddin and his two police bodyguards in the murderous assault on the then SP S.K. Singhal and his police squad almost 11 years ago. Additional District Judge, heading the special court inside the Siwan Jail, G.P. Shrivastava would be pronouncing the quantum of punishment against all the three convicts on Friday. Mr. Shahbuddin and his two bodyguards, Havaldar Jahangir Khan and Md. Khalid, fired at the SP and his police party while they were chasing a group of criminals on May 3, 1996. The havaldar fired from his sten gun forcing the police party to take shelter. The SP filed his FIR the following day against Mr. Shahbuddin, the two police guards and 12 unidentified armed criminals at the Darauli police station. The police forwarded eight witnesses to substantiate its charges.
