Twenty more Special Economic Zones cleared

NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday cleared 20 new Special Economic Zones (SEZs), including two information technology and IT-enabled service based SEZ of Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant Technology. It also gave in-principle approval to seven SEZs.
At a meeting, the Board of Approval (BoA) of SEZs took up 31 applications, which included four proposals for conversion of in-principle approvals to formal approvals.
It gave formal approval for setting up a multi-services SEZ by Gujarat Finance City Development Company Limited in Gandhinagar. Similarly, an agro and food processing SEZ by the Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. in Dimapur, a textile SEZ in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and a multi-product SEZ at Bharuch in Gujarat were also given formal approvals.
The BoA also approved two IT and ITES based SEZs by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) at Kakinada and Chittor in Andhra Pradesh.
The TCS-promoted SEZ and Cognizant Technology Solutions India Pvt. Ltd.’s SEZ will also come up in Andhra Pradesh.
The BoA gave in-principle approvals for sector-specific SEZs for providing products and related services for oil and gas, energy and petrochemicals by Gujarat Hydrocarbon and Energy Ltd. in Gujarat and a multi-product SEZ by Gitanjali Gems in Nagpur. Welspun’s engineering product zone was also given in-principle approval.
