Indian Bank sails into semifinals

Dindigul: Indian Bank, Chennai entered the semifinals of the TNEB Trophy State-level invitation football tournament with a 3-0 victory over Dindigul District Football Association XI at the SDAT District Stadium, here on Thursday.

State Bank, Chennai and AGORC, Chennai also made the semifinal grade with identical 2-1 margins over Tamil Nadu Special Police, Chennai and St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchi respectively.

The results (quarterfinals): Indian Bank 3 (Santha Kumar, Sathish Kumar, Nirmal Kumar) bt DDFA 0; State Bank 2 (Joesph 2) bt Tamil Nadu Special Police 1 (Hariharan); AGORC 2 (Selva Kumar, Muthu) bt St. Joseph’s College 1 (Ashok).

Thrilling win

Salem beat Puducherry by just one run in a thrilling finish in the four-team ‘B’ zone league for its second win in the TNCA inter-district under-17 cricket tournament for PR Thevar Trophy at Karaikudi on Thursday.

The scores: At Karaikudi: Salem 235 for eight in 50 overs (Amith Singh 50, Isaac Raj 38, Karthik three for 24) bt Puducherry 234 for five in 50 overs (Sathyaraj 81, Lokesh 43); Nagapattinam 251 for five (Murugavel 98 not out, Vignesh P athy 40, Manoharan 46 not out, Arun four for 35) bt Sivagangai 158 for nine in 50 overs (Achuthan 34, Arun Nivas three for 24).

At Dindigul (F zone): Erode 61 in 31.4 overs (Praba Krishnan four for 16) lost to Kanchipuram 67 for no loss in 14 overs (NS. Chathurved 40 not out); Tirunelveli 174 in 44.2 overs (P. Marimuthu 55, C. Paulraj 64, M. Mohamed three for 2 3, R. Santhosh three for 35) bt Dindigul 108 in 35.1 overs (VM. Haran 34, B. Chinnadurai five for 33).
Madura College in last four

Madura College entered the semifinals of the Madurai Kamaraj University championship handball tournament defeating Arulanandar College, Karumathur 18-7 at Madurai on Thursday.

Other results (quarterfinals): Ayya Nadar Janakiammal college, Sivakasi bt Vivekananda College, Thiruvedagam 17-4; MKU PG Dept. bt Saraswathy Narayanan College 21-17; Sourashtra College bt Thiagarajar Arts College 28-13.

Pre-quarterfinals: Vivekananda bt Rama Praba College, Dindigul 15-7; MKU PG Dept. bt VHNSN College, Virudhunagar 11-1; Thiagarajar Arts College bt NPR College, Natham 10-8; Arulanandar bt American College 11-9.
SIT lifts title

Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti beat Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai 3-2 for the title in the final of the Anna University zone IX inter-engineering college hockey tournament at Karaikudi on Thursday.

Ramesh scored a brace and Senthil Kumar scored one goal for SIT. Anand and Saravanan scored for TCE.
