‘Integrate traditional biology with sciences’

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Traditional biology should not be neglected and can be improved with the integration of physics, chemistry and mathematics, said H.A. Ranganath, Vice-Chancellor, Bangalore University.

He was delivering the keynote address at the two-day national symposium on “Recent trends in bio-sciences”, organised by the Department of Zoology, PES Degree College, here on Thursday.

“We are killing traditional biology. We do not have any professional head either in the colleges or the universities for the newly developed, modern biology,” he said.

K.V. Devaraj, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences, said bio-sciences would open new vistas in the years to come.

M.R. Doreswamy, founder-chairman, PES Group of Institutions; D. Jawahar, chief executive officer of the PES Group, and P. Natarajan, Rajiv Gandhi Chair, Cochin University, were present.
