Petition dismissed

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition by Vikas Dahiya of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad seeking a direction to Delhi University to keep certain provisions of the model code of conduct in abeyance for this year’s elections to the Delhi University Students’ Union scheduled for September 7.

Dahiya had filed the petition following rejection of his nomination papers on Wednesday for the post of president of the students’ union on the grounds of violation of one of the codes that bars a student who has not cleared his papers in the preceding academic year from contesting the elections. Dahiya had sought the relief on the grounds that the provisions had been made part of the model code only this month with the intention to extend political benefits to certain students.
