FIR filed against two Bhagalpur policemen

Special Correspondent

PATNA: The Bhagalpur police on Thursday filed an FIR against the Nathnagar police station ASI L.B. Singh and constable Ramchandra Rai for inflicting agony on a petty thief, violating the police code and human rights on Monday.

The criminal case was lodged only after the two police personnel were externed to Sheikhpura district.

They had been placed under suspension on Tuesday for dragging Aurangzeb alias Salim, tied to their motorcycle.

The National Human Rights Commission issued a notice to the Bhagalpur Superintendent of Police and the Director-General of Police (Bihar) and also sought a report from the government.

The National Commission for Minorities issued notice to the government condemning the police brutality.

The police have made no arrest so far though they lodged a criminal case against the locals who beat up the alleged chain snatcher.
