INSAT-4CR to be launched on Sunday

CHENNAI: The campaign is progressing satisfactorily for India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle, GSLV-F04, to launch the communication satellite INSAT-4CR around 4.20 p.m. on September 2 from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

It is a three-stage vehicle, and its topmost stage is powered by a cryogenic engine from Russia. The satellite has been integrated with the vehicle, which was moved to the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota on August 24, says an ISRO release.

INSAT-4CR carries 12 high-power Ku-band transponders designed to provide direct-to-home television services, video-picture transmission and news gathering by satellite. The launch vehicle was built by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, and the satellite was made by the ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore.
