Mumbai: The upsurge in fees for domestic cricketers from Rs.3000 for a first class match in 1998-99 to Rs. 35,000 per day for all the senior tournaments from the forthcoming season has been a consequence of the BCCI Marketing Committee’s knack of generating new revenue streams. “It’s also because of senior cricketers’ (Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Anil Kumble) proposal that 26 per cent of the gross receipts be shared between the Indian team and the domestic first class cricketers. Four years ago, the BCCI held a lot of meetings with these four to give shape to the players’ contract. It was in one of the meetings that the senior players recommended 13 per cent of the BCCI’s gross revenue be disbursed to the domestic cricketers, seniors and juniors,” said Prof. Ratnakar Shetty, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), BCCI. Ten years ago, the domestic players received Rs.3000 for a four-day match in the league stage and Rs. 4000 for a knock-out match. It was Rs. 750 for a one-day match.
