THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) has claimed record sales of milk during the Onam season. A press note issued here said the normal sales of 9.4 lakh litres a day peaked to 18.17 lakh litres during Thiruonam day. The regional union Thiruvananthapuram sold 6.72 lakh litres, the regional union Ernakulam sold 4.48 lakh litres and the regional union Malabar 6.97 lakh litres of milk on that day. This constitutes an increase of 5 to 9 per cent from last year. Similarly, the sales of milk-products such as curd, ghee, butter, milk powder and ice cream also spiked during the festival season. Previously, Milma used to procure milk from neighbouring States to meet the additional demand during the Onam season. This time the agency was able to meet the demand all by itself.
