Counterfeit notes dog trading activities in Dhanbad coal belt

Dhanbad (Jharkhand): The retail trade in the coal belt of Jharkhand has suffered because of proliferation of fake notes especially in the denomination of Rs.500.

The situation has come to such a pass that both traders and customers suspect each other of using counterfeit notes after some fake note agents were arrested at Chandanguary in Bokaro district and Jharia Koyla Mandi of Dhanbad district.

The secretary of the Dhanbad Chamber of Commerce, Rajiv Sharma, said that businessmen were apprehensive of the prevalence of fake notes in the market. All in all it is a peculiar situation: The traders cannot identify fake notes and banks refuse to accept them.

A joint team of Dhanbad and Bokaro police, which arrested agents of the racket at Chandanguary and Jharia with fake notes on Wednesday, is yet to find out if the racket operated from the coal belt or outside the State.
