ACCIDENT RELIEF: KPCC president M. Mallikarjun Kharge inaugurating free ambulance service of N. Dharam Singh Foundation in Gulbarga on Friday.
Gulbarga: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge inaugurated the N. Dharam Singh Foundation in Gulbarga on Friday. He lauded the foundation’s efforts to provide free ambulance services to accident victims. He said the foundation planned to help women’s groups get bank loans. Mr. Kharge said that access to health and education was the key to human resource development. Hyderabad-Karnataka region fared badly in human resource development. Efforts of such NGOs would contribute to this crucial aspect of economic progress, he said. The Congress leader urged the foundation to expand its activities to the district and the State. Agriculture Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur said the efforts of the foundation would supplement the Government’s plans of providing better health care to the poor. Foundation managing director and Mr. Dharam Singh’s son Ajay Singh said that it would provide financial support to women, children, the disabled and the deprived classes. “We have special programmes like free ambulance services and community dairy project,” he said. The foundation would provide emergency medical attention and escort services. On an average, 80 people died in road accidents in Gulbarga every year. Taking them to hospital in time would reduce the fatality rate. Two ambulances with emergency care equipment would be stationed in Gulbarga. The foundation’s helpline was 08472-255222. The ambulances are available 24 hours a day, he said. Under the community dairy project, groups of poor women would get loans to buy a cow and a calf. The foundation had tied up with Syndicate Bank and would help women get loans. Groups in 10 villages in Jewargi taluk had been identified as beneficiaries. The project would be extended to other taluks, Dr. Singh said. Gulbarga MP Iqbal Ahmed Saradagi, the former ministers A.B. Malaka Raddi, Baburao Chinchasur, Quamarul Islam, Inspector-General of Police R.K. Datta, Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey, and Mr. Dharam Singh were present.
