Their agitation entered the fourth day on Friday Many organisations extend support to agitating teachers
GADAG: The indefinite fast by art and music teachers to press for their demands entered the fourth day on Friday. Three teachers were hospitalised after their health deteriorated. While one teacher was hospitalised on the second day of the protest, four were hospitalised on the third day. Condition worsens
After doctors from the District Hospital found the condition of the three teachers worsening, they asked them to get admitted to the hospital on Friday. Giridhar Pujari, Basavaraj Kallur and Manjunth Hiremath wanted to continue their agitation, but the police forcibly got them admitted to the hospital. ‘Relax age limit’
Seven teachers are on a fast to press for their various demands, including considering them for appointment by relaxing the age limit. Some more teachers had joined the agitation, L.D. Rathod, president of the Akhila Karnataka Nirudyogi Chitrakala Shikshara Sangha, told The Hindu over phone. Meanwhile, Puttaraj Gawai expressed solidarity with the protesting teachers after visiting them on Friday. Several organisations have extended support to the agitating teachers. Members of the Akhila Karnataka Nirudyogi Chitrakala Shikshakara Sangha, Akhila Karnataka Ganayogi Sangeet Parishat and Gadag Zilla Panchakshari Gawai launched the agitation on August 28 seeking relaxation of guidelines for appointment of art and music teachers and giving priority to candidates who have crossed the stipulated age limit. No action
The members have alleged that in spite of repeated assurances no steps had been taken by the coalition Government to fulfil their demands.
