UNDER SCRUTINY: Police and forensic experts examining the front door of Tali Mahadeva Temple at Angadipuram, near Perinthalmanna in Malappuram distirct, which was set on fire on Friday.
PERINTHALMANNA: Leaders of different Muslim organisations have condemned the burning of the front door of Tali Mahadeva Temple at Angadipuram on Friday. Expressing pain, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State president Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal said that such acts should not be tolerated. He called for stern steps to put down such acts. IUML general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty extended all support to the authorities concerned in bringing the miscreants to book. He said that none should be allowed to exploit the situation for political gains. Aryadan Mohammed, MLA, called for a united move against those attempting to destroy communal harmony in the district. He said those behind the torching of the temple door had vested interests, and they should be severely dealt with. He said the police should act without delay against the guilty. The Jama’at-e-Islami condemned the incident and described it as a deliberate attempt to destroy communal harmony in Malappuram. A statement by N.K. Abdul Azeez, secretary of Jama’at Malappuram East district, said the guilty should not be allowed to go scot-free. The Samastha Kerala Sunni Students Federation (SKSSF) registered concern at the incident. While condemning the burning, the student body said the Tali temple was a symbol of communal amity at Angadipuram. It said none should be allowed to take advantage of the situation. The police should act fast, it said. Mr. Shihab Thangal; Mr. Kunhalikutty; Abdurahman Randathani, MLA; Central Haj Committee vice-chairman K. Alikutty Musliar; district panchayat president Arimbra Mohammed; vice-president P.K. Kunhu; District Collector Sumana N. Menon; CPI(M) district secretary K. Saidalikutty; and DCC president E. Aboobacker were among those who visited the temple.
