Indians can stay two months more in UAE

Five-member team to visit UAE on September 2
Extension of visa period valid till November 2

HYDERABAD: Indians in the United Arab Emirates have been permitted by the UAE Government to stay for two months beyond September 2, the deadline fixed for them to leave.

The UAE has also agreed to a proposal forwarded by the Andhra Pradesh Government for the latter to depute a team to the Emirates to resolve problem, if any, faced by the people from Andhra Pradesh to return to their native State. The Government received a message to this effect from the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday.

Accordingly, a five-member team headed by Minorities Welfare Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir will visit the UAE on September 2.

After briefing Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on the latest developments in UAE, the Minister told reporters that the main problem faced by the people from Andhra Pradesh related to lack of funds to buy air tickets to return home.

The Minister said the amnesty granted by the UAE Government amounted to a two-month extension of the visa period valid till November 2. He said 3,000 out of the 43,000 people staying in the UAE from the State had already returned. Those remaining there were expected to arrive here by November 2.

Gainful employment

Mr Shabbir said the Government would ensure that those returning home were not left in the lurch by providing them some gainful employment.

As there was a boom in construction activity in the State, many of them could be trained as masons and electricians.
