eSeva to be merged with Rajiv Internet centres

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The 250 odd eSeva centres serving citizens in 15 cities and 111 towns in the State through a variety of consumer services, will be merged with the numerous Rajiv Internet Village centres covering rural areas and APOnline, a website that offers data on various Government activities.

These centres will hereafter function as Rajiv Citizens’ Services Centres (RCSC). With this, more citizen service centres are expected to be opened in rural areas, offering the listed services to the rural consumers too who are now getting only a few of them through Rajiv Internet Village centres. A plan has been finalised to open one RCSC for every six villages with Central assistance.

The decision for the merger was taken by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy while reviewing the results of the e-governance initiatives launched by the State Government, along with the officials of the Information Technology & Communications Department.

Dr. Reddy suggested that driving test for issuing driving licences could be undertaken through simulators to avoid inconvenience to public.

For the time being, he, however, insisted on a full-fledged driving test for licences. Officials informed him that driving licences at present were being issued within 24 hours after applying.

Minister for Information Technology R. Damodar Reddy told reporters that it was planned to outsource services like sale of stamps, applications and dealing of chit funds, using CARD project in the Registration department. Plans were on to e-preserve such documents.
