With the monsoon suddenly becoming active under the influence of the trough, bringing rain in some coastal districts on Friday, Congress activists in Eluru offered prayers at a temple for the success of her whirlwind visit to Guntur, Eluru and Rajahmundry. Engagements
Among other engagements, Ms. Gandhi is scheduled to launch the second phase of Indiramma, the prestigious programme of the Rajasekhara Reddy Government, at Thummuluru village in Guntur district. The Congress president will land at around 10.30 a.m. at Rajahmundry from where she leave to inaugurate the Rajiv Gruhakalpa Low Income Housing Satellite Township in Rajahmundry Rural Mandal and interact with the villagers. Her next halt will be Thummuluru, where she will arrive by 12.35 p.m. After launching Indiramma-II, she will talk to the beneficiaries. She will then proceed to Guntur town to address a public meeting. From there, Ms.Gandhi will reach Eluru at 3.50 p.m. and meet women of self-help groups. Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, apart from briefing her about the situation in the wake of the twin bomb blasts in Hyderabad, is planning to make a comprehensive presentation at Guntur on the developmental programmes undertaken up by his Government. The Chief Minister is also expected to request Ms. Gandhi to ensure that the State gets lion’s share of Central funds.
