Detection of crime a big challenge in the sub-division
TIRUPATTUR: The Tirupattur sub-division police are planning a major campaign to control infiltration and crime in the town and adjoining areas. They chalking out a detailed plan slated for launch by next week. K. Pooncholai, inspector, Tirupattur town police station, said that Tirupattur was the second major town in the district. S total of 33 wards besides Teachers Colony under the Paachal village panchayat come under the town police limits. Teachers colony is a crime-prone area; so are the Housing Board Colony Phase 1 and Phase 2. He said that that under the Jolarpet police station, which also forms part of Tirupattur sub-division, adjoining areas including Velan Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar and Avvai Nagar recorded high rates of crime. The people from the Kuruva community from Pernampattu, Kottankaloor, and Pullaneri and nearby Uttankarai, Singarapettai, Saamalpatti and Kuppam indulge in crimes. After committing a crime, they fled. Detection of crime was a big challenge for the police. Mr. Pooncholai said that the Tirupattur sub-division now concentrated on controlling infiltration, as it would directly help prevent crime in the entire sub-division. As a step in this regard, the police had intensified night beats. Officers in the ranks of inspectors and sub-inspectors had to be on the night beat up to 4.30 a.m. the next day morning. The police were to deploy Village Vigilance Committees, which comprised of youths, who aspired to get into the Police Department. In the recently concluded recruitment for the post of sub-inspectors and constables, 138 aspirants had been selected from the district. Out of this one-third of the recruits are from the Tirupattur sub-division. The sub-division arranged for special coaching for the aspirants. He said that the police had identified canidates, who had missed out an opportunity to join the police force, to be included in the Village Vigilance Committee. These aspirants would be given further training. Moreover, the police would rope in college and school students into the Village Vigilance Committees. The volunteers would create awareness of the modus operandi of various crimes to the public. Further, the Village Vigilance Committees would conduct ward-wise meeting to discuss about the suspects. Mr. Pooncholai said each of the wards would be spilt into streets for effective policing. A volunteer from the public, and members belonging to the Village Vigilance Committee attached to the streets, would assist a police constable on beat. Absolute vigilance would be maintained on locked houses in the division.
