CHENGAM: Welfare Association of the Rural Mass (WARM), a leading non-governmental organisation at Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district, is now actively involved in creating awareness of the problems faced by aged people. As a step in this regard, the NGO plans to organise a rally at Chengam on September 13.
K. Rajavelu, honorary secretary, WARM, talking to The Hindu said that thousands of aged people at Chengam and adjoining villages would participate in the rally.
The rally would stress on the need for younger generation to take care of the aged. Chengam MLA Polur Varadan would flag off the rally. A meeting to probe various emotional and social problems faced by the aged would be held.
Mr. Rajavelu said that WARM, in association with Helpage India, Chennai, and Canadian High Commission, took a survey of the state of the aged at Chengam and adjoining villages in August. The organisation contacted 200 people and consolidated a report on the common problems faced by them.
The survey was restricted to Chengam and adjoining villages.
