Seoul thanks Moscow

Vladimir Radyuhin

MOSCOW: South Korea has thanked Russia for help in securing the release of Korean hostages in Afghanistan.

“I would like to express big gratitude for the efforts your country and other countries have taken to free the Koreans captured in Afghanistan,” South Korean Foreign Minister Song Min-soon told his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, during their meeting in Moscow on Friday.

Earlier on Friday Mr. Song Min-soon thanked Russian Acting Security Council Secretary Valentin Sobolev for assistance in the hostage crisis.

“Russia showed itself as South Korea’s real friend,” the South Korean Minister was quoted as saying. “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”
