Violence near Godhra
Manas Dasgupta
AHMEDABAD: The police burst teargas shells and fired in the air to disperse two clashing mobs following incidents of arson and stone-throwing in Shehra town, about 15 km from Godhra, district headquarters of the Panchamahals, on Friday.
The police said the trouble began with a quarrel between two groups of Sindhi and Muslim students of the local S. J. Dave High School over sharing of seats.
As word spread that two groups of students were clashing, people gathered in large numbers near the bus stand and indulged in stone throwing.
The mobs also set four shops, one tempo and four motorcycles on fire.
