Forum campaigns against terrorism

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Forum for Dignity organised a silent march and public meeting here on Friday to highlight the plight of a “particular community” that is “targeted and victimised” in the name of fighting terrorism. As part of a Statewide campaign, the forum has been organising silent protests and other events in several places, including Mysore, Ramanagara, Tumkur and Udupi, Anees Ahmad, secretary of the forum, said.

Several youths joined Friday’s silent protest holding placards with slogans against terrorism. Mr. Ahmad, the forum’s State executive member, Elyas Ahmed, and its vice-president, Mehabub Awad Shareef, later addressed a meeting.

They highlighted the fact that the “attempts by communal forces and certain elements in the police and administration to tarnish the image of their community” was making life difficult for thousands of innocent people. Mr. Ahmad said these terrorist activities intended to create anarchy, disturbance and perturbation at the global level were being “needlessly highlighted by sections of the media, while the government machinery too is suppressing the minority community instead of giving protection”.
