BANGALORE: Armed men dragged a real estate agent out of his sports utility vehicle (SUV) and hacked him to death in Nelamangala police station limits in Bangalore Rural district on Thursday night. The police gave the name of the dead as Puttasampaiah (55), a resident of Bhakthanapalya village. Puttasampaiah, a landlord, was also vice-president of Nelamangala Taluk Kurubara Sangha. Around 8 p.m. Puttasampaiah and his acquaintance Sreenivasa Raju left Bhakthanapalya to Hesaraghatta in a SUV. While they were driving on Hesaraghatta Road, armed men, who came in a car and a van, intercepted the SUV near Thotagere village. They dragged Puttasampaiah out of the vehicle and attacked him with choppers and swords and slit his throat with a knife, killing him on the spot. After the assailants escaped, Sreenivasa Raju, who had hid in the SUV, alerted the Nelamangala police. After a message was flashed on the wireless, the Sooladevanahalli police intercepted the van near Hesaraghatta and arrested two people who were in it, while some others managed to escape. The police gave the names of the arrested as Ramachandra (23) and Mahalinga (24), both residents of Srirampuram. The police suspect that Puttasampaiah was murdered over a land dispute. The Nelamangala police have registered a case and are on the lookout for five others who were involved in the attack. Killed
Two factory employees were killed on the spot when a lorry hit their moped on Hosur Road on the outskirts of the city in Attibele police station limits around 11.15 a.m. on Friday. The dead were identified as Mallinath (35) and his brother-in-law Peerappa (25), both from Aland taluk in Gulbarga district. The two were working in a private factory on Hosur Road and were residents of Attibele, the police said. After the two fell from the moped, the lorry ran over them, killing them on the spot, the police said. The Attibele police have seized the lorry and arrested the driver. Recovered
The Central police arrested Sippu (21) of Malavalli taluk in Mandya district on charges of burglary and recovered from him aluminium ware and electronic goods, all worth Rs. 1.05 lakh. VCDs seized
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) staff on Thursday arrested Manjunath Bovi (19) of Kuvempunagar and seized from him 1,155 pirated VCDs and DVDs, worth Rs. 2.25 lakh. The police said they arrested Manjunath while he was selling the pirated discs on a footpath on Avenue Road.
