CHAOS: Traffic on GST Road between Tambaram and Guduvanchery went haywire on Friday morning.
TAMBARAM: Traffic on National Highway 45, also known as Grand Southern Trunk Road, was thrown out of gear between Tambaram and Guduvanchery on Friday morning due to accidents in three places.
At Guduvanchery, an unidentified man was killed on the spot after being hit by a government bus.
He was crossing the national highway near the bus stand, when the accident took place. Around the same time, a multiple vehicle collision took place at Urapakkam. Three private buses, all headed to Chennai collided with each other as the one travelling in the front jammed the brakes suddenly.
Though none was injured, the drivers of the three vehicles quarrelled with each other on who would remove their bus first. And in Perungalathur, a jeep rammed a lorry near a temple. The three accidents, that took place within a span of hour, caused a massive pile-up of vehicles.
Motorists proceeding to Chengalpattu took a diversion at Peerkankaranai and re-entered GST Road at Vandalur, after passing through Sadanandapuram and Kolapakkam villages. It was a harrowing experience for motorists for two hours between 9.30 and 11.30 a.m. as they were trapped in the massive pile-up.
Only after deployment of cranes and recovery trucks, vehicles involved in the accidents removed from the spot.
