Diabetes care to get a boost

Government plans to set up a Rs. 6 cr. institute of diabetology


Bangalore: The proposed institute of diabetology, to be launched by the State Government at a cost of Rs. 6 crore, would be temporarily located on the premises of the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Minister for Medical Education V.S. Acharya said here on Friday.

Speaking after inaugurating a new out-patient block at the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Dr. Acharya said the Government was in the process of identifying land for the new institute and till the new premises was developed, the diabetology institute would be on the cardiology institute premises.

He said that apart from state-of-the-art treatment it would have training facilities and also an ultramodern lab.

The paediatric cardiology ward was renamed KHB-Paediatric Cardiology ward as the hospital received Rs. 50 lakh from the Karnataka Housing Board for conducting paediatric surgeries and development of the ward.

Minister for Housing D.T. Jayakumar, who announced the renaming, lauded the work of C.N. Manjunath, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, in the field and said he had made the State proud through his work.
