“The murder has nothing to do with caste rivalry” Gohana town returning to normal, says SSP
CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday ordered a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the murder of Rakesh Kumar alias Lara, a Balmiki young man, at the request of his family members who met him on Thursday in New Delhi. Rakesh was killed in Gohana town of Sonepat district on Monday night. The family of Rakesh and some Balmiki leaders including Desh Raj Lohat and Ramu Rampal told media persons in Gohana on Friday that they were satisfied with the Chief Minister’s assurance that a post would be established in Balmiki Basti which would be manned by paramilitary personnel. They further asserted that the murder of Lara had nothing to do with caste rivalry. While asserting that the Balmiki Samaj would not resort to any agitation whatsoever, they said no one would be allowed to politicise the issue or divide society on caste lines. PTI reports: Sonepat: Three persons have been arrested for the alleged murder of Rakesh, SSP Navdeep Singh Virk told reporters here. He said though Sanjay of Butana village, Naresh alias Neshi of Busana and Dinesh of Mundlana have been nabbed, the main accused Dinesh alias Deenu of Khanda village and Prahlad were absconding. The arrested trio was produced before a magistrate who remanded them to police custody for five days. Mr. Virk said the arrested had been involved in many cases of murder, loot, dacoity, assault and escape from police custody. He said the deceased Rakesh was involved in eight criminal cases with the last being registered against him on the complaint of one Sawan of Balmiki Basti in Gohana. However, he was acquitted in the murder of Baljit Siwach, a Jat financer of Garhwal village on August 27, 2005 after which over 50 houses of Dalits were torched in its “Balmiki” colony. The SSP said the situation in Gohana town was returning to normal with a CRPF company being deployed in and around Balmiki Basti.
