NAGAPATTINAM: The district police have intensified vigil at public places, including places of worship, cinema halls, railway stations, bus stands, following the receipt on Thursday of three unstamped airmail letters addressed to the Superintendent of Police, and police stations in Nagapattinam and Nagore.

Kalpana Nayak, Superintendent of Police, on Friday, convened an emergency meeting of police officials.
The officer instructed the police personnelto keep a vigil, especially at Velankanni where lakhs of pilgrims have been thronging every day to attend the 11-day annual feast festival of ‘Our Lady of Health’ that began on Wednesday at the Shrine Basilica.
Vigil at the check-posts have also been intensified in the district.
The Superintendent of Police has appealed to the people to inform the police if they found any abandoned bag, box or other items in public places.
