3 accused in murder case found guilty

KOTTAYAM: All the three accused in the Anantharaman murder case, in which a newly married man on his honeymoon trip to Munnar was killed by his wife’s paramour with her connivance, have been found guilty of the crime. Declaring the judgment on Thursday, Thodupuzha Additional Sessions Judge A.N. Janardhanan said the sentence would be pronounced on Saturday.

The case in focus relates to the murder of 30-year-old Anantharaman, a resident of Pammal Sanker Nagar in Chennai, on 18 June 2006. He and his wife Vidyalakshmi (22) were on a honeymoon to Munnar. According to the prosecution, Anantharaman was killed by the first accused Anand (24), an autoriskshaw driver, at Kamaraj Salai, Anakaputhur, and his accomplice and hired killer, the second accused, Anpuraj (21), of Kalankarvattom, Nagapatinam, with the full knowledge and abetment of Vidyalakshmi , the third accused, who was in love with the first accused.

On the fatal day, the couple had gone to Kundala Dam site, where Anand and Anpuraj, who had followed the couple from Chennai to Munnar, strangled Anantharaman with a camera cord.

The court found Anand guilty of murder (IPC section 302), criminal conspiracy (379) and theft (120B). The second accused, Anpuraj, was found guilty under IPC Section 302 (murder) 379 (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (furtherance of the crime). The third accused has been found guilty under IPC sections 302(murder), 109 and 114 (abetment) and 120 B (theft)
