Students urged to make better use of emerging technologies
BAPATLA (GUNTUR): A workshop on renewable energy sources was conducted at Bapatla Engineering College in association with NEDCAP. The Renewable Energy Club of BEC took the initiative to organise this as part of the NEDCAP’s programme to involve educational institutions in the programme. IIT Madras Assistant Professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering K. Srinivasa Reddy delivered the keynote address. Inaugurating the programme, Bapatla Educational Society president M. Seshagiri Rao said that focus must be on innovating and developing alternative sources of energy and advised students to utilize the emerging technologies. College principal G. Nageswara Rao stressed the need for development of alternative sources of energy. NEDCAP district manager G. Haranath Babu and member, energy conservation mission, Institution of Engineers (India), A. Purna Rao also spoke. Mr. Srinivasa Reddy brought out the disparities between the industrialised and developing nations in the usage of energy. As an example he said that the U.S. with 7 per cent population consumed 32 per cent of the total energy produced in the world, whereas India with 20 per cent of world’s population consumed only 1 per cent of total energy. Bapatla Educational Society secretary M. Nageswara Rao, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering V.C.A. Vara Kumar, BEC Renewable Energy Club chairman N. Jalaiah, and others were present.
