Teachers to participate in rally

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: More than 600 teachers of private colleges affiliated to the University of Mysore will participate in a rally organised by the Federation of University and College Teachers’ Association in Karnataka (FUCTAK) in Bangalore on Sunday in protest against the “inordinate delay” in conceding their demands.

The teachers from Mysore, Hassan, Mandya and Chamarajnagar districts will be joining the rally under the banner of the Mysore University Private College Teachers’ Association.

‘Promise not kept’

Association president K.P. Vasudevan said that despite the promise by Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy to look into their demands favourably, officials had been “reluctant” to push the case. Prof. Vasudevan said that the State Government had promised to send teachers (transferred from bifurcated Pre-University Colleges to degree colleges) back to their parent colleges, but it had not kept its promise even after three years.
