‘Stern action against those supporting sale of arrack’

Special Correspondent

SHIKARIPUR (SHIMOGA DISTRICT): Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has expressed concern over the sale of arrack in Shikaripur taluk.

Launching several development programmes at Shiralkoppa here on Friday, he took Police and Excise Department officials to task for being lenient in curbing the menace. He warned them of stern action if such cases were repeated.

He said the sale of arrack had been banned at the request of Stree Shakthi Groups and other women’s organisations. Mr. Yediyurappa assured the gathering that he would initiate stringent action against those found guilty of corruption and asked the people to come forward and help the Government in this regard.

He distributed bonds to beneficiaries of the Bhagyalakshmi scheme and also gave sanction letters to beneficiaries of the Sandhya Suraksha Yojana, a pension scheme for the elderly. Addressing a gathering at Shikaripur town, he asked government employees to serve the people with dedication.
