Staff Reporter

Rajahmundry: The police arrested 200 CPI workers on Saturday when they tried to encroach assigned land in Jhansilakshmi Bai Nagar of Bommuru in Rajahmundry rural mandal.

CPI workers went to the place early in the morning under the leadership of Meesala Satyanarayana and Ketha Apparao and tried to set up huts in the vacant land.

Rural CI L. Ankaiah with his force arrested the leaders and took them to the Bommuru police station.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. M Satyanarayana said that they had only tried to occupy assigned land and the revenue authorities were going to assign the same land to landlords.

He said that they wanted to continue the agitation till the Government came out with a plan of action and give land to all the landless poor.

CPI city joint secretary Setty Latchalu, district women wing secretary Y. Lakshmi, S. Ramanamma, Kirla Krishna and others participated in the land struggle.
