“Yoga improves memory power”

PUDUKOTTAI: The Yoga Training Centre and Veterans’ Club set up jointly by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu Yogasana Association was inaugurated at the District Stadium here on Saturday by the Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests, S. Regupathy.

The Minister said yoga helped improve concentration and memory power and it would be of great help to the students.

Yoga also enhanced the performance of sportspersons, if practised regularly, he added.

The General Secretary, Tamil Nadu Yogasana Association, N. Ramalingam, and the District Sports Officer, A. Rajendran, were present.

The free yoga classes will be conducted both in the mornings and evenings.

Special training will be provided for the senior citizens. R. Pandian will be the coach for men, while Y. Bhuvaneshwari Pandian will train women participants.

A district-level yoga competition was also conducted on Saturday.

The event, which was conducted under 8, 12, 18 and 25 age categories, attracted more than 170 participants.

S. Vasanth (Manickam Matriculation School), N. Madhusudhan (Vallalar Mandram, Mathur), V. Arumugam (Vallalar Mandram) won the boys’ under-8, 12 and 18 titles respectively.

In the girls section, P. Shanthini (Ponmari Vidhyalaya), S. Rajalakshmi (Sri Suba Bharathi Matriculation School), G. Suganya (Sri Suba Bharathi Matriculation School) won the under-8, 12, 18 titles respectively. A. Renuka of Ponmari Teacher Training Institute won the women’s under-25 crown.

The Superintendent of Police, Kapil Saratkar, gave away the prizes.
