Girl student beaten up by teacher

Koraput: A 12-year-old girl of a residential tribal school at Podagad near here was on Saturday hospitalised as she fell unsonscious after being caned allegedly by a teacher, prompting authorities to order a probe, official sources said. Muktamani Khila of Class VII lost consciousness after she was caned allegedly by a mathematics teacher Gyaneshwari Bhadra for failing to answer a question, they said. Confirming receipt of complaint about the alleged incident, District Collector Balakrushna Sahu said he asked sub-collector to probe the matter and submit a report by Sunday. _ PTI
