Landmine unearthed

Parlakhemundi: A possible mishap was averted with timely detection of landmine laid on a busy State highway at Bachipanka village in Orissa’s Gajapati district, about 130 km from here, police said on Saturday.

While conducting a joint-combing operation in the Naxal- affected areas yesterday, the CRPF and Special Operation Group found the mine laid on Highway No 7 between Berhampur and Rayagada, and defused it before it could trigger any mishap, they said. About 1.5 kg of explosives in liquid form had been kept in a steel container with a pair of wires attached to it, SP A N Sinha, said. _ PTI
