ERODE: Student should involve in research work for the nation to flourish, said the Dean, Sponsored Industrial and Research Consultancy, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, P.P. Chakrabarthi on Saturday while inaugurating the national-level symposium ‘FUTURA’ at the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam. They should update knowledge in all fields, especially Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. Every day new innovations were coming up. He wanted the students to devote their attention on learning and doing research in the related subject. He said “our scientists could not get various international awards due to lack of proper research.” Centre
He urged the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology management to send students to IIT, Kharagpur, for research work as they had the world’s biggest research centre. The Erode District Collector, T. Udhaychandran, while distributing awards to best students wanted them to involve in research work. He said every year 60 per cent of the engineering graduates and 10 per cent of medical graduates were appearing for IAS and were getting selected. India needs good research scholars, he said and hoped that events like FUTURA would help students develop their knowledge. Welcoming the gathering, the Chairman of the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, S.V. Balasubramaniam, said that 425 students from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Puducherry, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi were participating in the three-day symposium. 144 papers would be presented at the symposium and 40 projects would be displayed. The Director of the college, S.K. Sundararaman, Principal A. Shanmugam and others spoke.
