Vishnu triumphs

KOZHIKODE: Vishnu Narayanan and Adheena K. Lathif emerged the junior champions in the boys’ and girls’ events respectively in the KDTTA all-Kerala prize-money table tennis tournament here on Saturday.

The results:

Boys: Junior (final): Vishnu Narayanan bt S. Arjun 11-3, 11-8, 11-2, 11-9; Semifinals: Vishnu bt Rahul Mathew 11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6, 11-3; Arjun bt Naveen Kurian 13-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6.

Sub-junior (final): Rahul Mathew bt Aswin Gokul 12-10, 11-7, 12-10; Semifinals: Rahul bt Jobison James 11-8, 11-6, 11-9; Aswin bt Akhilesh Viswanath 12-10, 11-9, 11-9.

Cadets: Riswin Jackson bt Renjith Benny 11-7, 11-6, 12-10.

Girls: Junior (final): Adheena K. Lathif bt Shikha Jacob 9-11, 11-2, 12-10, 11-7, 11-7; Semifinals: Adheena bt Anjali Vasudevan 11-9, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5; Shikha bt Lakshmi Prabha 9-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9.

Sub-junior (final): Gayathri Gireesh bt Reshma Susan 11-7, 4-11, 11-8, 13-11; Semifinals: Gayathri bt Anjali S. Nair 7-11, 6-11, 11-7, 13-11, 11-3; Reshma bt Serha Jacob 11-6, 11-2, 9-11, 11-6.
Shidad posts win

At Thrissur, M. Shidad of Ernakulam shocked defending champion A. Agesh Kumar of Kasaragod in the third round of the State chess championship for the visually impaired here on Saturday.

Mohamed Sali (Kozhikode) and T. Shaibu (Kannur) shared the lead at the end of the fourth round with four points apiece, half-a-point ahead of P. Balaraman (Thiruvananthapuram) and S. Abdul Samad (Kottayam).
