Ornaments looted from NRI’s house Crime notes

BANGALORE: Burglars entered an NRI’s house through the air-conditioner duct and looted gold ornaments worth Rs. 5 lakh.

The police said the incident took place on Thursday at Ram Das’s house on 6th Cross, 2nd Stage, HAL, in Indiranagar police station limits. The thieves had removed the air-conditioner box and entered in through the duct when Ram Das’s wife Chaya was not in the house. Ram Das works with a private airline in Muscat. On a complaint by Ms. Chaya, the Indiranagar police have registered a case.

In another incident reported from Indiranagar police station limits, burglars made away with gold jewellery worth Rs. 1.5 lakh and $50 from the first floor house of Santosh on 6th Cross, 1st Stage, Indiranagar.

The police said the theft took place between Thursday night and Friday evening when Mr. Santosh and his family members were not in Bangalore.

Burglary bid

Burglars attempted to loot cash from Vijaya Bank’s branch at Gunjur in Varthur police station limits on the outskirts of the city on Friday night.

The police said that using a gas cutter, the thieves cut the grills of the rear window of the bank.

Though they had ransacked the bank, they were not able to steal cash from the strong room. Following a complaint by the bank manager, the police pressed in sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts to find clues to trace the intruders.

Racket busted

The Ulsoor Gate police arrested four persons, including a retired High Court employee and an employee of a magistrate court, who were allegedly providing fake documents to accused to enable them get bail. The police said the four were arrested following a complaint by Hussein Ahmed, an official from the VII Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, that the accused were providing fake salary certificates to magistrate courts in the city to obtain bail. The four men had connived with some advocates and were creating and supplying fake salary certificates. Investigation is on to trace a few other court employees and advocates who are part of the racket, the police said.

The accused had helped Abdul Rehman, who was arrested in a criminal case by Silver Jubilee Park police, to obtain bail on the strength of fake certificate, the police said.

The arrested are Nagu (43) of Tannery Road, a Group D employee at magistrate court in Mayo Hall, Mohammed Sharief (66) of Bapujinagar, a retired High Court employee, P.B. Ravichandra (42) of Ganganagar and G. Veeranna (52) of NGOs’ Colony.
