NJR holds meet on progress of schemes for rural areas

Concern over dengue cases
Officials asked to conduct door-to-door survey

VISAKHAPATNAM: A meeting of the Monitoring Committee on implementation of rural development schemes in the district was held under the auspices of MP N. Janardhan Reddy on Saturday.

The meeting reviewed the implementation of various rural development schemes taken up in the district with Central Government assistance.

District Rural Development Authority Project Director J. Murali briefed about the issues which were raised by members at the last review meeting and the measures taken by the departmental heads concerned on them.

Housing

The meeting discussed issues pertaining to construction of houses under Indira Aawas Yojana, water shed management, outbreak of dengue fevers in the city, rural water supply and Swarojgar Yojana among other things. Minister for Commercial Taxes Konathala Ramakrishna asked the officials concerned to conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns in all the 72 wards of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation to educate people on checking the spread of dengue fevers.

The members expressed concern at the outbreak of dengue.

Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena said that a special drive was launched and 10 areas in the city which were infested by dengue-causing mosquitoes were identified.

Fogging of the affected areas and de-silting of drains was taken up to control mosquitoes, he said.

Bobbili MP Botsa Jhansi Lakshmi, MLA s Dronamraju Srinivas and T. Gurumurthy Reddy, Mandal Praja Parishad presidentsB. Tatayya Babu (Butchaipeta), K.S.N. Raju (Chodavaram), Dantuluri Raju (Padmanabham), Kalla Varalakshmi (Pendurthy) and K. Venkateswara Sai (Kotauratla) and officials of various departments attended the review meeting.
