VIJAYAWADA: Research has become a casualty with students from all categories focusing their attention completely on IT and emerging opportunities in that field rather than achieving excellence in basic sciences. Declining interest in fundamentals and foundations of science has become a cause for concern in the academia so much so the topic comes up in speeches made at seminars and workshops where they do not fail to make a mention of the issue. Bringing the issue to the fore at a State-level student seminar on ‘nanotechnology’ organised at the Andhra Loyola College (ALC) here on Saturday, the speakers expressed the fears that reduced contribution in research and development would have a negative impact on the overall growth of the country. Advice to youth
The Andhra Loyola Physics Association (ALPHA) organised the seminar welcoming participants from across the State. Government General Hospital Chief Superintendent G. Eswar advised the educated youth to underscore the importance of research and make their contributions to this field in a greater measure so that the future generations would benefit from it. Excellent results
This encouragement would attracted more students and researchers giving excellent results, he added. Dr. Eswar said that though a relatively new subject, nanotechnology had come to be acknowledged as the technology of the future with its applications expected to have far-reaching changes in the medical field as well. ALC principal S. Emmanuel said that the students should strive to have a foothold on advanced technologies.
