Arnold Schwarzenegger
Washington: California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has postponed a planned trade mission to India scheduled for later this year and cancelled an upcoming trip to the U.K. citing domestic legislative work. Emphasising the importance of his planned trip to India, Mr. Schwarzenegger said he will reschedule the visit as soon as possible. “California reaps tremendous benefits from these trade missions and we will work to reschedule that trip as soon as possible,” he said in a statement on Saturday. Mr. Schwarzenegger was to lead the trade mission to India to promote investment and services from California. The California Governor said he cancelled the trips to India and the U.K. because he wanted ‘to maintain the flexibility to call a session.’ His health care, political and water policy reforms have been stalled in the State Legislature, which is scheduled to wind up its business for the year on September 14. “While I am confident that we will be able to accomplish quite a bit before the end of the legislative session, I need to maintain the flexibility to call a special session. With only two weeks left, we need to finish the work we have begun on health care, a comprehensive water plan and redistricting reform,” he said. Mr. Schwarzenegger was to speak at the Conservatives party conference in the U.K. in September. Now he plans to participate in the conference via satellite. — PTI
