Rs. 1 crore for construction of Banjara Bhavan in Gulbarga city 276 veterinary doctors to be recruited on direct appointment basis
GULBARGA: Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamgi said on Sunday that the Government had issued a notification for the constitution of Banjara Development Corporation in the State this year and allocated Rs. 10 crore to it. Thanking the Government for conceding one of the long pending demands of the people belonging to Banjara community, which continues to remain as one of the most economically backward and neglected communities, Mr. Belamgi told presspersons here that the constitution of the exclusive corporation would go long way in helping the community to join the mainstream and get its due share in development activities. He said this was one of the major achievements of the 19-month-old Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party Government in the State. He praised both Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa for constituting the corporation. Mr. Belamgi said that the Government had also released Rs. 1 crore for the construction of Banjara Bhavan in Gulbarga city. The auditorium and meeting hall in the proposed bhavan would be used for performing marriages and other functions of the committee, he added. He said that the proposed bhavan would be constructed in the land allocated to the Banjara Seva Sangha in the heart of the city. He said that the Banjara Bhavan would be the second one to be constructed in the State after Hubli. The Government had already sanctioned Rs. 16 crore for constructing a Banjara Bhavan in Bangalore, but the construction could not be taken up immediately owing to dispute pending in court over the land allocated for it, he said. Mr. Belamgi said that the Government had filled up 750 vacant posts of veterinary doctor in the State and given permission for recruiting another 276 veterinary doctors on direct appointment basis. Incidentally, in the last six years before the coalition Government took charge, only 27 veterinary doctors were appointed, he added. Besides sanctioning 160 new veterinary hospitals in the State, more than 180 doctors who were without promotions for the last 20 years were given promotions, Mr. Belamgi said. He said this year 6,000 beneficiaries from Below Poverty Line families would be provided sheep and goat under a new scheme. He said that immediate steps would be taken to ensure that the polyclinic established in Gulbarga Veterinary Hospital was functional.
