Plea to table Ranganath Mishra Commission report

Staff Reporter

Kozhikode: The South Indian round table conference of the Popular Front of India, Kozhikode, held here on Sunday urged the Union Government to table the Ranganath Mishra Commission report before the Parliament and publish the same immediately.

The meeting also decided to form an action committee to put pressure on the Government by organising agitations after making the people aware of the same. Front chairman E. Aboobacker said the Government which had accepted the Rajinder Sachar Committee report was `burying’ the Misra Commission report.

He said though the report was submitted on May 21, it was not tabled before the Parliament nor published. The Centre classified it as a secret document and took it out of the purview of the Right to Information (RIT) Act, he alleged.

All-India Muslim Majis Mushavara president Syed Shahabudheen said that it was time to launch agitations nation-wide to make the Constitution-envisaged social justice a reality. The two sessions with the topics, “The relevance of Mishra Commission’ and `Muslim Reservation: Towards Consensus Formula,’ were attended by political and social activists from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Popular Front general secretary E.M. Abdurahiman, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetta Kazhakam general secretary S. Hyderali and Karnataka State Minority Educational Institutions Management Federation president C.R. Muhammed Imthiyas were among those who spoke. A public meeting was also held in the evening.
