Industrialists help out special children

Staff Reporter

BENIGN GESTURE: R.N. Mishra, Executive Director, BHEL, handing over the appointment letter to a student of Arivalayam in Tiruchi.

TIRUCHI: The recent gesture of three industrialists in the city reflected their concern for society.

Their decision to provide permanent jobs to seven special children of Arivalayam, the school for the mentally challenged and hearing impaired in the BHEL Township, highlighted what Corporate Social Responsibility was all about.

The representatives of Tamil Nadu Cheran Industries, M/s Velmurugan Industries and G.K. and Sons visited the campus and chose the children suitable for the jobs in their units after assessing their capabilities.

The industrialists considered even minute details like the location of their houses so that transport would not be a problem.

Handing over the appointment letters, BHEL Executive Director R.N. Misra complimented the teachers of Arivalayam on making the students economically independent by honing their skills.

G. Uma Shanker, Additional General Manager, Planning and Development, BHEL, and Arivalayam president, said the institution was prepared to establish a workshop on its premises to provide training to its students keeping in mind the need of the industry.

Meena Mishra, patron, Arivalayam, honoured the industrialists, Uma Sivasubramanian of Tamil Nadu Cheran Industries; Sampath of Velmurugan Industries; and Sundarrajan of G.K. and Sons. The industrialists said they were impressed by the punctuality and good work done by the children during the training period.
