TIRUPATI: S. Krishnamurthy (57), Director, Public Relations and Publications of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who was seriously injured in a road accident near here on August 24, died here on Saturday. Mr. Krishnamurthy was on life-support system at the TTD-run Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences here. The accident occurred at Sankhampalle near Pakala, about 45 km from here, when Mr. Krishnamurthy, along with ISRO scientist Rajeevlochan, was on his way to Tirupati en route to SHAR, Sriharikota on August 24 night. They were to break their journey here for an overnight halt at the guest house of the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory and depart for SHAR the next morning. A lorry rammed their car from behind, resulting in instantaneous death of Rajeev Lochan and driver Chandan. Mr. Krishnamurthy was critically injured. Mr. Krishnamurthy, a mechanical engineer, joined the ISRO in 1989 as Director of Public Relations and Publications. A media-friendly person, he was popular among journalists for his simple articulation of scientific and technical details, especially during the pre and post-launch briefings. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
