The party to highlight coalition government’s achievements

Brahmavar (Udupi District): Shobha Karandlaje, MLC and general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit, said on Sunday the party would perform well in the forthcoming civic polls.

Addressing presspersons here, Ms. Karandlaje said that in order to prepare the party workers for civic polls, the BJP had formed 13 teams which would organise workers’ conventions and ward-level meetings in the State. Rajnath Singh, BJP president, wanted the party to be strengthened at the booth-level. “The party has taken the municipal elections as a challenge,” she said.Ms. Karandlaje said the BJP would project the achievements of the Karnataka Development Front (KDF), especially the schemes presented by Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, in the budget. There was a good response for the programmes such as “Sandhya Suraksha” and “Bhagyalakshmi”. In many places, party workers had helped the beneficiaries in filling the application forms for these schemes, she said.

According to Ms. Karandlaje, the BJP would win elections in 100 of the 207 municipal bodies. The party would secure majority in Gulbarga, Mangalore, Bellary, Davangere and Hubli-Dharwad. It would also win a majority in 96 town panchayats, she said.

Ms. Karandlaje said there was no confusion over the transfer of power. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Mr. Yediyurappa had agreed on sharing of power. “I am confident that the Janata Dal (Secular) will not break the agreement”, she said.
