Special Correspondent

TIRUCHI: The Goldenrock railway workshop here has been awarded an order from the Railway Board for manufacture of 240 BOXNHL wagons.

These stainless steel wagons with a high payload are designed to overcome corrosion, body bulging and weak stanchions, says a release issued on Saturday.

The 38th rake containing 45 low-container flat wagons, meant for the Container Corporation of India, was flagged off by V. Thyagarajan, General Manager, Welding Research Institute, BHEL, on Saturday. S. Rangarajan, Chief Workshop Manager, was present.

The Container Corporation has awarded three more orders for manufacture of 2,585 container flat wagons, all valued at Rs. 568 crores.

The workshop is gearing up for production of 1,000 wagons a year, given the huge demand from the Corporation.

In the past four decades, 32,650 wagons in 47 varieties have been manufactured in the workshop.
