Centre for semiconductor industry

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government is planning to set up ‘fab city’ in Kochi for the semiconductor industry, Special Secretary, Information Technology, K.R. Jyothilal said.

Inaugurating the new R.R. Donnelley global business process outsourcing (BPO) facility at Technopark here on Monday, Mr. Jyothilal said talks regarding the project were on with various companies.

IT infrastructure

Also on the cards is an Information Technology infrastructure company, with equity participation from the State Government, he said.

Located at Technopark here, the facility, which is the company’s second in the city, covers an area of over 40,000 square feet.

It can accommodate 1,000 employees.

It will provide transaction processing and financial management services to the company’s clients in Europe and the U.S. The company currently has around 500 employees at its existing facility in Thiruvananthapuram and about 4,500 employees in Chennai, according to Mr. Kiran Shankar, managing director and head, R.R. Donnelley Global BPO-Asia Operations.

According to Mr Shankar, the company would continue to focus on the non-voice BPO segment.

While much of the company’s recruiting is from colleges in South India, it will look for talent from other regions based on the requirements of its clients.

“We are excited about our expansion in Kerala and look forward to building on our capabilities and providing greater value to our clients,” he said.

Technopark CEO N. Radhakrishnan Nair said the park continues to attract renowned global brands in view of the state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities at the park and access to exceptional talent pool.
