HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers and Workers on Monday urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to raise the house rent allowance from 20 to 30 per cent and the City Compensatory Allowance to Rs.500 for those working in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area. The JAC leaders, headed by V. Gopal Reddy, chairman, who called on Dr. Reddy, also sought an increase in HRA ceiling from Rs.3,000 to Rs.5,000. They said the suggested increases should be extended to the staff with effect from April 1 this year. They urged Dr. Reddy to recruit one lakh persons to fill the vacant posts of junior assistants, typists, attenders and watchmen in different departments. The leaders, who called on the Chief Minister, included D. Sudhakar, secretary-general of JAC, P. Subbarayan, deputy secretary-general, K. Swamy Goud, co-chairman, N. Anand Rao of AP Revenue Services Association, Ramakrishna, president, Secretariat Employees’ Association, and Syed Mahmood, president, APSRTC National Mazdoor Union.
