Uma case handed over to Crime Branch

NEW DELHI: Investigations into allegations against Uma Khurana, the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya teacher who was arrested this past week on the basis of a sting operation by a Hindi television news channel purportedly showing her to be involved in flesh trade, have been handed over to the Crime Branch of the Delhi police.

The Crime Branch on Monday secured two days’ police remand for another accused in the case, Virender Arora, who was arrested following purported revelations by Uma that he arranged girls for her.

Earlier the police traced the girl shown by the news channel as one of the victims of the flesh trade, but they found that she did not have any links with the teacher. It is learnt that on the basis of the information they have gathered so far, the police have doubts about the veracity of the sting operation. On Monday they summoned the reporter who had conducted the sting operation to record his statement.

Also, investigations so far have not yielded any evidence proving that Uma used to film girls in compromising positions to blackmail them and force them into prostitution.
